A hot meal can change the day of an isolated elderly person or a struggling family. Food donation is one of the most direct forms of help in Morocco: what you give becomes, quite literally, a plate served. Here's how food donation works and how it turns into meals in Marrakech.
Why food donation matters so much
For an elderly person living alone on little or no income, eating properly every day can't be taken for granted. For a low-income family, the food budget is often the first thing cut. A food donation meets that immediate need without delay.
Dar Sadaqa: when a donation becomes a meal
In Marrakech, Maroc Générations' Dar Sadaqa programme turns donations into meals cooked and served by volunteers:
- morning soup and the Friday dish;
- meals and home visits for isolated elderly people in the medina;
- Friday Couscous: 100 kg of couscous and 50 chickens for more than 2,000 families each month;
- during Ramadan, Iftar Saim: about 2,000 fast-breaking meals every evening.
What your donation pays for
The average cost of a meal served at Dar Sadaqa is about 5.40 MAD.
| Your gift | What it represents |
|---|---|
| 100 MAD / month | about 18 meals each month |
| 200 MAD / month | about 37 meals each month |
| 500 MAD / month | about 93 meals each month |
| 9,300 MAD | a week of Friday Couscous |
| 10,750 MAD | the food for one day of Iftar Saim |

- Money lets us buy in bulk, at the right time, exactly what is missing. It is often the most effective.

How to make a food donation
- On the Donate page, choose the daily meals fund or a monthly amount.
