Ramadan is the month when Moroccans give the most. It is also when needs are most visible: every evening, many families have to find something to break their fast. How can you give better during Ramadan, so that your generosity goes as far as possible? Here are practical tips.
1. Give before Ramadan starts
This is the most useful and least known tip. Associations that serve Iftar meals must buy food before the month begins. A gift made a few weeks before Ramadan lets them buy in bulk and plan better, so they can serve more meals.
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin in early February 2027, with the exact date depending on the sighting of the crescent moon.
2. Fund a specific action
At Maroc Générations, the Iftar Saim operation serves about 2,000 fast-breaking meals every evening in Marrakech. You can fund a specific part of it:
| Your gift | What it funds |
|---|---|
| 10,750 MAD | The food for one day of Iftar Saim |
| 11,560 MAD | One full day of Iftar Saim, logistics included |
| 49,400 MAD | 2,000 meals for the night of Laylat al-Qadr |
| 346,800 MAD | The whole Iftar Saim operation for Ramadan |
Smaller gifts are just as valuable: together they fund each evening.
3. Sponsor a family's Ramadan
A Ramadan sponsorship is monthly support that pays for a family's Iftar throughout the holy month. It's a simple way to know exactly what your gift achieves.
4. Don't forget Zakat al-Fitr
Zakat al-Fitr is due for each member of the household before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. In Morocco, its guideline amount is announced each year by the Higher Council of Ulema. Pay it in time so it reaches families before Eid.
5. Think beyond Ramadan
Needs don't stop when the month ends. A monthly gift (for example 100 MAD, about 18 meals) keeps the Dar Sadaqa kitchens running all year, for isolated elderly people and families alike.
6. Give your time too
During Ramadan, volunteers prepare, pack and distribute meals every evening. If you are in Marrakech, joining the team is another very concrete way to give.
