In the villages of the High Atlas, winter is long and harsh. Cold, snow and isolation make daily life hard for families who often lack warm clothes and blankets. Before the cold sets in, a donation of clothes or support for the Winter Fund can truly change a household's season.
Why winter is so hard in the Atlas
In mountain villages, temperatures drop sharply in winter. Many homes are far from roads, and some can only be reached on foot. For a low-income family, getting equipped for the cold is a hard expense, especially with several children.
Our work: reaching the most isolated villages
Since it began, Maroc Générations has carried out twenty campaigns distributing clothes and blankets in remote regions, to help families face the winter cold.
Reaching these families takes effort: aid crosses footbridges and travels by mule to reach homes the road doesn't reach. Volunteers collect, sort, transport and distribute.
In the same regions, the association has also organised more than ten medical caravans, with volunteer doctors, nurses and pharmacists.
Three ways to help this winter
1. Give clothes and blankets
In-kind gifts are at the heart of the winter collection. To make them useful:
- give warm clothes and blankets;
- choose items that are clean and in good condition, the kind you'd give to someone close to you;
- think of children, who are many in village families.
Offer your gift through the "Offer an in-kind donation" form: our team will tell you how and where to hand it over.
2. Support the Winter Fund
A financial gift to the Winter Fund supports the collection of clothes and blankets for the Atlas. It's also the best option if you're far from Marrakech or abroad.
3. Organise a collection
A company, school, group of friends or neighbours: organise a collection around you. Contact us before you start so that the donations match the needs.
When to give?
As early as possible, before the deep cold arrives. Collecting, sorting and getting aid to the villages takes time, especially when the paths are difficult.
